About “A Christmas Carol” – From Caitlyn Drake, DCTC Chairperson

In September of this year, we dreamed up our little company– originally intending for it to be a small performance for family and close friends. It didn’t take long, however, for it to snowball into something our whole community could enjoy.

With the Christmas season just ahead, we all agreed that our debut performance should be ‘A Christmas Carol.’ It is a timeless classic that never fails to warm hearts, and we wanted to begin on a high, positive note. James Hutchinson’s version of the story includes a wide variety of characters, many of whom viewers don’t get to know in other adaptations. My personal favorite is Jacob Marley. In the versions of the play I’ve seen, he’s always just been the ghost sent to warn Scrooge of what’s to come. Here, you will get to see a bit of Scrooge’s past, including some pivotal moments concerning a younger Mr. Marley.

We originally intended the play to be done as written, with ten actors playing multiple parts each. But as our cast grew, that changed. Even so, many of our actors are taking on dual roles. This created some interesting motifs. If you look closely, you’ll see that each of the ghosts that come to haunt Scrooge bear a striking resemblance to people in his life.

‘A Christmas Carol’ will also be an immersive experience. If weather permits, the performance will take place on an outdoor stage. The audience will gather around in chairs or on blankets on the lawn. Before the show, we will encourage guests to mill about, get some cookies and hot chocolate, get their picture taken with props (and, after the show, with the actors), listen to the carolers, and enjoy the ambiance.

We invite you to come and share in the magic of the season, and cheer on members of our community who put in hours of dedication just for the sake of creating and sharing art.

‘A Christmas Carol’ will be presented at 6:00pm on December 18, 2021 at Copper Ridge Elementary School in Corona de Tucson, AZ. Doors will open at 5:30pm. Reserve free tickets here!
